Been a while since I’d seen one of these up close. I forgot how just big they are. Makes sense for what it’s for, but from a distance they don’t seem as ponderous. The Tahoe next to it really puts it in perspective. Also saw this VW Tranporter in the same lot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in the US before. Once again, Tahoe for scale The VW is tall and long, but narrow compared to the Chevy. TDI is kind of neat, but I suspect this thing is pretty slow.

I had one of those as a cab the last two times in Chicago, ugly, but they do the job well. Loads of space.
If there was an option for a front passenger seat, I could see maybe having one as an ultra durable “forever car”, a la a Volvo 240 or Checker Marathon.

Top TDI engine for the Transporter is a 2.5 5-cyl with 172 hp, but I don’t think that’s what’s in there. I think that’s a 1.9 of some sort.

My uncle is looking at MV1, and wants to trade their converted town & country. My cousin has severe cerebral palsy, and is stuck in a wheel chair.

I see MV-1's decently often, more often than I see any supercars...I s’pose having a VA hospital and University hospital in town ups the odds on the MV-1, though.

Is there a place in Texas where you don’t have a GM SUV for size reference?
Also according to VW’s mexican website you can get either a 5 speed manual with 102 hp or a 7 speed automatic with 140 hp, both are 2.0l turbo diesel’s.

If I were to buy one, the only engine available is a 2.0 diesel with anything from 84 to 200 bhp depending on how many turbos and how much boost you want

Right now, yes, but that’s a pre-facelift T5, which had the 1.9 PD-TDI and the 2.5 PD-TDI as options. (There were also two gasoline engines, ye olde 2.sl0 (with its 8 valves of fury), and a 3.2 VR6.)

I don’t know anything about the reliability, but it seems like t should be good. Body on frame built under contract by AM General and the motor is either the old Ford 4.6L V8 or the newer 3.7L V6 that powers everything from Mustangs to F-150's.

Makes sense. I really love the whole concept of these. It just seems like it should work better than converting some Chrysler or Toyota minivan to shoehorn it into the job.

I highly doubt the Transporter would sell worth a crap here. But I would still love to see it, just because I have nostalgia for the Vanogan Westfalia mini-campers that some of my friends had in PA growing up in the 1990's.

Damn that really does sound painful to drive in US traffic. I suspect to sell it here they’d need the 2.0T has engine as a base and have to offer 3.6L V6. And no to the first question. it’s hard to throw a rock without hitting a Suburban or Tahoe here. Only thing thing more common seem to full-size pickups. Though I would like to add that Tundras and Tacomas are very everywhere here in SA (probably because we build them here.)
